Meet Australia’s Recruitment Professional of the Year winner

By Rosheen Singh RCSA Recruitment Professional of the Year (AUS) winner Knowing the impact an individual will have on a charity, and the sector as a whole, is very special and to be recognised for this passion is one of the greatest highlights to date in my almost 11-year career in Recruitment. Winning the Australian Recruitment Professional of the Year Award at the 2020 RCSA Industry Awards, still doesn’t feel real to me all these months later. I am still on cloud nine from the acknowledgement, with my award proudly displayed on my desk! This award really means a lot to me. When I was told that I was being nominated by Beaumont People I was very excited, but felt that I stood no chance of e

Meet Australia’s RCSA Recruitment Leader of the Year winner

By Jason Ellias 2020 RCSA Recruitment Leader of the Year Winner (Australia) Despite all the doom and gloom in the headlines, personally, 2020 has been a year of positive milestones. I was lucky enough to be awarded Recruitment Leader of the Year, to hit 20 years in business and to have been elected as Chair of NPAworldwide. Point of Difference I was trained as a lawyer so problem-solving has been drummed into me. I always found the idea of matching the best candidate to the best role paramount. So I learned early on to collaborate with other recruiters. I was never going to fill every job or place every candidate. I would much prefer to close a deal and make a split than none at all or, wors

Why company values and culture are so important now, more than ever

By Will Allan Director and Founder, Hello Monday NZ We are finding more and more with the businesses we work with, that company values are being mentioned more now than ever before. Businesses are now wanting to integrate their values, not only in marketing the company’s EVP (Employee Value Proposition), but more importantly into standard HR process like recruitment and attracting talent, performance appraisals, coaching conversations, and leadership discussions. This is a big shift from the attitude businesses had around values and culture pre-COVID. The circumstances that we find ourselves under this global pandemic has lent us new perspective to prioritise what is important in life, our w

Newly elected RCSA council members announced

The RCSA council elections were held recently, and we were delighted by the record number of nominations received. Due to the large number of nominations and increased competition this year, some nominees chose to hold social media campaigns to help boost support. Successful nominees were contacted at the start of this month, and we are very proud to announce the appointment of 16 new council members. There are also many council members who have been re-elected for another two-year term which starts on November 19 – the date of RCSA’s annual general meeting. The combined vast experience of new and returning members will ensure these council bodies stay energised during the upcoming term. The

Cultural competence is an important skill set to have

By Karaitiana Taiuru If a recruitment organisation promotes a diverse people environment this will attract diverse people to work there and diverse clients. I would encourage all organisations to be respectful of their Indigenous Peoples regardless of business opportunities. By doing so, this reflects to other cultural communities that you are culturally sensitive, diverse and shows respect. In New Zealand it is mandated that the public sector engage with Te Tiriti o Waitangi (New Zealand’s founding document with Māori, its Indigenous Peoples). But businesses, including large corporates are discovering the wealth of knowledge to be found through meaningful engagement with Māori. But, it is i

Pursuing learning and opportunities outside of work makes for better employees

Emily Bowen, Growth and Partnerships Manager at Forsythes Recruitment & HR and host of the My Millennial Career podcast, believes we are each responsible for our own career journey and need to let employers know what we want if we are to achieve it. Emily sits down with LinkedIn Enterprise Account Director Clara McCarthy in the latest of RCSA’s and LinkedIn’s The New Face of Recruitment: Female Leaders Paving the Way series. She talks about her podcast, her own journey to success and why Millennials need to take responsibility for their own career path rather than having someone else dictate what happens for them professionally. Q. You are a strong believer that each person should be self-re

How a global pandemic is affecting the lives and work priorities of Millennials and Gen Z

By Claire Madden For our Millennials (born 1980-1994) and Gen Z (born 1995-2009), the ripple effects of COVID-19 are already having a profound impact on their ways of living. Lifestyle satisfaction and their ‘enjoyment’ of the social aspects of work have always been seen as ‘essential’ in both online and offline contexts. Under the backdrop of a global pandemic, social needs are being rivalled by more basis survival needs. The question now becoming - how can we maximise engagement from these generations in a context where their priorities and needs are shifting in today's changing landscape? Occasionally in history there are global events of such immense and far-reaching impact that they fun

Building a resilient recruitment business

By Claire Hewson Managing Director, PN Personnel Resilience is a required attribute for a successful recruiter, and the same is true in business. A resilient recruitment agency effectively responds and adapts to a constantly changing business environment. This is achieved by embracing change, utilising best practice, constantly striving for excellence and maintaining a solid infrastructure. Organisational success will always be reflective of the collaborative achievements of the people within it. My best piece of business advice is to surround yourself with people who have strengths in the areas of your weaknesses. This advice has been relevant throughout my recruitment career. When my busin

When 'Normal' isn’t right

By Apii Jack General Manager of ERG Recruitment Group Ltd I’ve worked n recruitment for over 12 years now and, prior to that, I recruited staff for my own teams in various industry sectors. I am of Cook Island decent and was born and bred in New Zealand. Near the end of August 2020 I came across a story shared on LinkedIn of an interview that John Campbell conducted with Aigagalefili Fepulea’i-Tapua’I, Head Girl of Aorere College. Aiga spoke of the “act of sacrifice and love” for families. What she was referring to was young high school students, particularly in the pacific island community, that had to give up school either fulltime or part-time so they could secure work and earn an income

No news yet on licence fee relief for Job Agencies impacted by COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria

Last month, RCSA wrote to the Victorian Treasurer requesting the government waive the annual licensing fee for Victorian labour hire businesses. The staffing sector supplies on-hire workers to businesses, government and community organisations across nearly every industry in Victoria. Those providing services for industries that have closed or been significantly constrained as a result of restrictions in Victoria have suffered the impact of those restrictions in line with the sectors they support. Because of the way staffing firms are structured however, they have not had nearly the same access to government support, such as payroll tax and other concessions, as has been available to the bus
