MAYDAY Recruitment celebrates double win in 2020 RCSA Industry Awards

Lynne Johnston, Managing Director of MAYDAY Recruitment, analyses why her team won two categories in the 2020 RCSA Industry Awards.

Wow, what a year it’s been!

Off the back of an excellent three quarters, and then a sucker punch to the stomach in March which was COVID, winning two RSCA awards was an absolutely brilliant end to our financial year and a massive morale boost to the entire team.

It’s been tough few months for us, as it has been for many, so to have the recognition that we are doing the right thing, means the world to us.

So I’ve been asked “what’s the secret to your success?”. I think it really boils down to having a really competent team who support each other through good times and bad, and as a business, always wanting to lift the bar in our industry.

We hire based on attitude, coachability, a strong work ethic, and a focus on customer service. The result is a team that are made up of not just great recruiters but also true account managers.

They aren’t after quick wins, they want to build long lasting relationships with their clients and candidates which means providing excellent customer service, delivering on promises, and being open and honest.

I believe to find out what your customers really think about you, you need to ask them. We started monitoring customer feedback through the Recruiter Insider platform about two years ago. The surveys are anonymous so candidates and clients can be as candid as they like. We take this feedback and build it in to our in-house training to ensure we’re always improving.

Winning the RCSA award for “Best Agency for Candidate Care 2020” is huge for us. It means that our focus on continuous improvement around the candidate experience is working, because our candidates are engaged and happy.

As a recruitment agency we need to stay relevant in order to be of value in the market.

Innovation is essential to do this, and that’s part of the reason last year we developed our digital recruitment solution which has transformed the process and results for our clients in the last 12 months.

We’ve been able to reduce time to hire, increase candidate engagement, and improve retention rates … at a time when recruiting remotely is the new norm, our solution has never been more relevant.

We’re so grateful to the RCSA for understanding why this is so important and awarding us “Business Innovation of the Year 2020”.

It’s very difficult to know what the next year will hold for MAYDAY and for the recruitment industry as a whole. What I do know is looking after customers and providing them hiring solutions that add value won’t go unnoticed.

If we keep innovating and raising the bar then we’ll continue to be valued business partners.
