Knowing the impact an individual will have on a charity, and the sector as a whole, is very special and to be recognised for this passion is one of the greatest highlights to date in my almost 11-year career in Recruitment.
Winning the Australian Recruitment Professional of the Year Award at the 2020 RCSA Industry Awards, still doesn’t feel real to me all these months later. I am still on cloud nine from the acknowledgement, with my award proudly displayed on my desk!
This award really means a lot to me. When I was told that I was being nominated by Beaumont People I was very excited, but felt that I stood no chance of even being shortlisted. When I was shortlisted, the nerves kicked in and the importance of this award dawned on me. If this weren’t 2020, then of course the excitement of a glamorous awards ‘do’ in Melbourne would have been calling. But instead, my amazing colleagues at Beaumont People made sure this day was really special and that my virtual awards ceremony was still full of fancy frocks and lots of champagne. I was totally shocked when I won and I am really proud of the achievement.
I moved over from London to join Beaumont People in Sydney three years ago and have specialised in Fundraising Recruitment for over eight years. I am a firm believer that in order to be successful in this job you need to be a market specialist. There are so many fabulous recruiters out there, so being able to standout because of your market knowledge is key.
Fundraising really is my passion and soon after commencing with Beaumont People, I developed a relationship with the Fundraising Institute Australia (the national peak body representing professional fundraising in Australia) and have worked hard over the last three years to support wherever I can in the development of our sector. This has been through designing and running training courses, hosting webinars, presenting at conferences and groups and working with key leaders in the sector on new sector initiatives. This has been an amazing way to get to know the sector, key influencers nationally and build my networks. It has also been brilliant for my own personal development, an area I have invested even more time into as I know how beneficial this is for me. Recently, I have taken part in our annual internal CPD program, attended an external public speaking course and run internal training sessions, all to continually develop my skills.
Since joining Beaumont People, I have had some great successes that I am really proud of. I was promoted to Fundraising and Marketing Team Leader. I have grown a great network and over 75% of my business comes from referrals with 77% of my roles being on a retained basis. My gross revenue has increased by 136% YOY compared to my first year and I now hold the Beaumont People best records for highest billing month, quarter and year in the Not-for-Profit Team, which has been established for over 10 years! All of this couldn’t be possible without the amazing colleagues and managers that I am lucky enough to work with everyday who constantly offer support, guidance and development opportunities.
My goal moving forward is to continue to support the development of the Fundraising sector, wherever I can. I want to encourage any new recruiters to look at Fundraising as a sector specialisation. Over the last eight years, I have truly been inspired by the level of impact one person can have on the Charity sector, learning to never underestimate the role I can play, even as a recruiter, in taking Fundraising to the next level. At the end of the day, if I can play a small role in the Fundraising sector’s sustainability and growth, then that is how I want to be remembered as a recruiter.
