Meet Hannah Deady, RCSA’s Australian Recruitment Professional of the Year award winner
The prestigious RCSA Industry Awards provide the opportunity to recognise the best of best in the recruitment, staffing and workforce solutions sector in Australia and New Zealand. This year’s winner of the 2021 Australian Recruitment Professional of the Year, Hannah Deady, Team Manager at MayDay Recruitment Group, shared with us the eight things that have influenced and driven her success.
I am over the moon to have won the RCSA Recruitment Professional of the year 2021 Award, and am still pinching myself months later.
It has truly been a huge honour to be recognised at this level for my contribution. Winning the award has opened up opportunities to connect with a wider audience, discuss service excellence in the industry and help new Recruitment Consultants at the start of their career.
I genuinely love what I do and being recognised in this category has just fuelled that passion, and I’m excited by the doors it’s opened and the new connections winning the award has brought me.
With that in mind I thought it would be useful to others to share eight things that have influenced me in becoming a finalist in this phenomenal award category:
Being a true recruitment partner; making the experience for candidates a positive one, whether they are successful in the role or are better suited elsewhere. Partnering with companies to understand their business, their challenges and how to meet their needs, and offering out of the box ideas for improvement and people-solutions.
Impacting the wider industry; not just MAYDAY customers, as it leads to positive representation of recruitment agencies and shows the value we can add. Since winning the overall Recruiter Insider (RI) Service Excellence Award in 2020 I have offered my advice on how to maintain strong candidate and client relationships, not only internally, but also to my wider network.
Being a hands-on leader who leads by example; I want my team to be the best in the industry and, although busy with my team, I still love the day-to-day interactions with clients and candidates - it's how I stay in tune with the market.
Being prepared goes a long way; I come to my weekly 1to1s with my MD with a plan. I have a range of short, mid and long-term goals that I am continually working on for both myself and my team. A big focus for me is our RI scores, which directly reflect the engagement and advocacy of our customers.
People are the most important thing in recruitment, and so I want to add value to my customers in different ways. After the impacts of COVID in March 2020, I knew it was vital to support our candidates who were worried about job prospects. Rather than running events just for MAYDAY temps, we opened "MAYDAY Temp Clinics" for the wider candidate market. I facilitated these online events and our whole temp team presented, giving advice on how to navigate the job market, requirements to work from home and how to utilise transferable skills. Our temp clinics were so successful that we went on to launch "MAYDAY Career Clinics", complimentary online events open to the general public, giving tips on resumes, LinkedIn profiles and how to maintain focus and motivation through tough circumstances.
There is always more to learn, and so I utilise the RCSA, LinkedIn, mentoring and training opportunities. I take any chance to stay on top of what’s happening in the recruitment market and share learning with my customers. This has led to strong relationships, customer advocacy and has assisted in winning large PSAs, even in a tough, highly competitive market.
Sharing knowledge for the betterment of all; I share industry insights with my network, such as our market research about businesses and candidates. In late 2020 our Insurance clients were calling out for industry information, so I contributed to the research and development of our Insurance industry whitepaper roll out.
Setting big goals; We consistently sit at 95%+ client and candidate RI satisfaction scores and I've goaled the team monthly to increase this by looking for efficiencies in our process and improvements to our communication strategies. My view is that by improving the candidate and client experience at MAYDAY, and in turn raising the bar for other agencies, we are having a positive impact on our industry and how it's viewed by the wider business world.
Hannah’s recruitment career spans nine years across the Sydney and UK markets. She has recruited within a range of industries, and has specialised in the Insurance sector since arriving in Sydney four years ago. In that time she has had two promotions at MAYDAY and now manages the temporary division, which she is proud has doubled in size throughout the last 12 months. Hannah is passionate about her team being the best in the industry, and so she leads by example, is hands-on and doesn’t stop until she matches the perfect candidate to their ideal position.
