Meet the winners of New Zealand’s Excellence in Client Service & Excellence in Safety and Wellbeing

Enterprise Recruitment and People were the New Zealand winners of both the Excellence in Client Service award and the Excellence in Safety and Wellbeing award at the 2021 RCSA Industry awards. We spoke with General Manager, Kurt McInerney about what sets Enterprise NZ apart as an industry leader and what receiving the award means to the organisation.

It’s fantastic to have been recognised for some of the initiatives that we have implemented that are improving the practices and processes of the recruitment industry.

The first is a project we ran in Auckland with Ingram Micro to deliver developmental opportunities for temp staff to upskill in the areas of health and safety in the workplace, communication, teamwork, reading and writing.

While the focus for this project was safety, the underlying impetus was to help improve literacy levels amongst temp staff.

As we integrated vocabulary building into every session, we started to see a marked improvement in an overall willingness to learn new words. We also saw marked improvements in many employees’ ability to give and receive effective instructions, including comprehension checking strategies.

Improvements in pronunciation, reading strategies, 5S principles and health and safety comprehension were also apparent. As temporary staff from mixed cultural backgrounds, the Learners found this aspect of the programme particularly revealing and useful.

Some of the Learner’s highlights (which the client benefitted from) included:

  • All made significant gain or progress in either Reading, or Writing or Numeracy (as measure by the TEC L&N assessment tool)

  • 100% achieved their personal goals on the programme

  • 83% achieved programme goals

  • 83% would like to do further training

We are proud of this project as evidence of us working in true partnership with the client and resulting in a win-win for all.

Our second initiative last year was a Health Tracker. This was developed as a way to give clients, our labour staff and Enterprise staff the confidence to return to work as normally as possible following COVID lockdowns.

The tracker is an interactive health questionnaire sent out from our database via a bot to all working employees that asked questions specific to COVID-19 symptoms.

At Level 3 lockdown level, all employees are asked to confirm their health daily, and anyone who declares issues will be advised not to go to work until they have been cleared by Healthline.

This provides a declaration of wellness as well as an easy-to-use prevention and transmission reduction tool. At all times this means we have an up-to-date picture of every currently placed candidate and “up to the minute” health status.
